To Burn Fat...Cardio First?...Or Weights?
Hello everyone,
Here is a neat little bit of information when it comes to burning more fat during your workout. Most of us will probably opt to do our cardio first, and then hit the resistance training. And of course, this is perfectly great. At least your in the gym and working out and keeping healthy, and prolonging your longevity and quality of life.
But if you are getting your workout in while traveling or on a tight time schedule during the week and need to maximize the time that you spent, then consider the following.
First, working out on an empty stomach, or at least after you have eaten for about 3 hours or more, burns much more fat because your blood sugar is lower and your body will need to tap into the fat storage for energy. Now consider that your body holds glucose, what our body uses for energy in two different areas. The liver and the muscles. Once all this glucose is burned, your body will enter into fat burning mode very quickly and easily. So....when you workout, if you were to lift weights first, then you use all the glucose in the muscles to perform resistance training. Then jump on the treadmill, and with all the glucose burned by doing muscle work first, your body will enter fat burning mode quickly and you will maximize the amount of fat that you will burn during the workout. Again, the fact that you are working out is already perfect, but if you want to give this a try and see if you get any added fat loss, then give it a go.
